Mixed methods research involves designing, collecting, analyzing, and integrating quantitative and qualitative data in a study or set of studies. There exists a variety of techniques in how researchers approach and apply the use of mixed methods. This webinar will cover some basic tenets, as well as some of the benefits and challenges, of conducting mixed methods work through research examples drawn from: a) a lab-based study of gender development and parent socialization using surveys, interviews, and taped conversations; b) the evaluation of an educational video game on components of moral development in middle schoolers using surveys and interviews; c) the development of a measure of social, emotional, and character-based attributes in elementary-aged children using cognitive interviews and surveys; and d) the evaluation of a media-enhanced and cross-aged mentoring curriculum using both process and impact indicators (e.g., surveys, interviews, open-ended questions, observations, and taped conversations).
